Mocrep is a Chicago-based ensemble dedicated to the performance of radical, 21st century music that engages with contemporary culture – aesthetically, socially, and politically. We specialize in works that not only synthesize music, theater, and performance art, but productively embrace the differences between these mediums. In this way, we hope to expose and explore new possibilities in performance today.
Highlights of Mocrep’s last season include six U.S. premieres, the beginning of a series of collaborations with International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) by performing Rick Burkhardt’s “Simulcast” in an OpenICE with Claire Chase and Joshua Rubin, a concert-collaboration with Berlin-based composer Ludwig Abraham, participation in the ten-day There is No Repetition Festival celebrating the works of Mathias Spahlinger, and collaborations with composers Steven Takasugi, Jennifer Walshe, and Martin Schüttler.
In our third season, Mocrep looks forward to a series of partnerships with the Goethe-Institut Chicago, continued collaboration with ICE, world premieres of works by Mathias Moller, Bethany Younge, Ludwig Abraham, Sam Scranton, Christopher Wood, Zach Moore, and Owen Davis. Mocrep was recently selected as one of three young ensembles (and the only U.S. ensemble) to participate in the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music 2016.
